Our application for a District Grant to assist in funding Traffic Controller training and necessary equipment has been successful. The Grant, which we must match dollar for dollar on the project, will enable a number of members to train as traffic controllers and for us to purchase equipment including safety vests, portable barricades, stop go signs and more.
We will need someone to coordinate this project so if you are interested please let me know.
DIK needs a temporary location
Anton Van Doornik, the coordinator of DIK, is seeking help as you will see in this email to all local Clubs:
Can you please get a message out to all the clubs in the Geelong area As you are probably aware DIK is closed for an indefinite period. We have just been advised that it could be closed for about 2 years, at the present location. It will take that long for the council to get things cleaned up. So we are looking for another home. Our current area under cover is about 500 sq meters but we can obviously to with less. We do need an area where we can have a 40th container dropped off and load it. I know it is a big ask, but we need to start somewhere. So far I have not had any luck.
Thanks
Anton
If you have any ideas to assist, please call Anton on 0412 256 878

Rotary fellowships consist of members who share a common interest in recreational activities, sports, hobbies, or professions. These groups help expand skills, foster vocational development and enhance the Rotary experience by exploring interests while developing connections around the world. They help participants to make lasting friendships outside their own club, district or country. They advance Rotary's public image and identity. They serve as an incentive for joining Rotary and for maintaining active membership. They are open to Rotarians, their family members, as well as participants and alumni of all Rotary and Foundation programs. I've been a member of the International Fellowship Flying Rotarians for over 30 years. We meet bi-annually with a local Rotary club who are our host for the weekend. Some of us fly in to the local airport, others drive, and some fly commercially then hire a car. There is always a full program organized which utilizes the local attractions or recreational facilities. We have a Rotary meeting / dinner on the Saturday night, BBQ at the airport Sunday then fly home. Lyn and I have taken part in many "fly-ins" including trips to Broken Hill, Hamilton, Tyabb, Moruya, Wagga Wagga, Lillydale, Canberra, Rutherglen and Renmark. We have always had enormous fun and explored exciting new areas (such as the volcanoes and larval tubes near Dunkeld). Two of the most popular Fellowships in Australia are the 4 W drive and the Caravan. With over 80 different fellowships worldwide it is an important and progressive aspect of Rotary.
It is with great sadness that the club received the news this week of the passing of past member Bob Merrett.
Bob was a very active and dedicated Rotarian until poor health forced his retirement from our Club in 2009. Bob passed away peacefully at home in Torquay on Monday following a very long illness.
The family are having a private service on Tuesday 13th June and there will be a celebration of Bob's life at their home 48 Bristol Rd Torquay on Wednesday 14 June from 4pm., to which everyone is welcome.
Our sympathy is extended to Robin and the Merrett Family.
The Torquay Rotary Change-over Lunch will be held on Sunday July 2nd at the Surf Coast Hotel, Torquay From 12- 3.30pm.
This will be a "Partners" function and all members and partners are encouraged to attend to join with Lesley Shedden in the celebrating the hand over the President’s badge & responsibilities to President Elect Gaynor Schols and her new team.
Please note that you will receive a formal invitation via Clubrunner very soon !!
As our current Rotary year draws to a close now is an appropriate time for us to begin planning for the "New" Rotary year.
2017-18 will be an exciting year for our Club particularly as we work alongside our recently inducted new members. President Gaynor will give a presentation on this to the Club early in the "New" Year however in the mean time as per President Elect Gaynor's recent email to you she would like all members to give thought as to what Areas of Service and Projects you would like to be involved with.
International Projects with Lesley
Community/Australian Service Projects with Michael
Vocational Service Projects with Richard
Youth Service Projects with Gerard
Membership Committee with Amanda
Public Relations with Greg
Please can you let Gaynor know (by email) which committee you would prefer to help with. We need a fair distribution and if I don't hear back from you, I will allocate your service role according to needs.
Also if you would like to be involved as a Committee member for any of our Major Events please also indicate this in your preferences to Gaynor.
Cub Projects
Motor Show
Book Fair
BBQ's
Ride the Bellarine
ANZAC Day
Golf Day
Major Events (ie Dine with Cadel)
......or if you have any ideas for possible future projects/events please raise these with any Board Members for consideration.
Most importantly our Club urgently needs to nominate a President Elect for the 2018-19 year to enable that person to participate in the full President Elect Training Program during the coming year.
Also before the "New" year gets underway there are two tasks for which assistance could be used, they are -
GOLF DAY Since the evolution of the Torquay Golf Club into the RACV Resort, our Club has struggled to return the Graham Price Golf to the popular and significant event it was in its heyday. This year an opportunity exists for this event to be included in the Calendar for the inaugural "Torquay Life Festival" which is being held during the month of October. Darrel Brewin is the Lead of the Golf Committee and would be eager to hear from anyone interested in joining this committee. Please contact Darrel on 0417185071
Public Relations If you are media savvy have an interest in photography and/or are comfortable working with Facebook, writing short articles and posting website stories then Greg Plumridge would be interested in having you join the Public Relations Team. There are unlimited opportunities for us to promote our Club to the outside world and we are restricted only by the people power and time available to present and post the articles. Please contact Greg to discuss on 0418521321
Is a three part series of fast paced, interactive one day courses offered to refine a Rotarian's leadership skills and increase their knowledge of Rotary.
The dates for the 2017-18 Program have just been released.
The 3 full-day training courses will be held in Geelong on Aug 5, 2017, Oct 14, 2017 and Feb 3, 2018
The club generally pays the fees and registrations close on 30 June.
Who Should Attend RLI:
Rotary Clubs are encouraged to select at leasttwo candidates for RLI annually. Participants return to their Club with enthusiasm new contacts, fresh ideas, an increased understanding of their potential as Rotarians, and valuable skills impacting their potential leadership in the Club. In particular, It's good for all Rotarians but especially recommended for new members, those with board positions and Presidents Elect.
In recent years Vernon D'Souza and PE Gaynor Schols have graduated from RLI so if you are interested in the course I encourage you to discuss with either of them.
Please contact Chris Sims on 0439 209 036 for more details or
If you cannot meet one of your assigned duties, Please contact Maggie Isom to advise.
The duty team should arrive no later than 6:00 p.m. Besides the below duties, the assigned team is responsible for Room Setup, Greeting Members and Guests, and Room Tidy at the end of our meeting - see checklist in storeroom or click here .
Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!
Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence. This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.
There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book" that is available at the book in table at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022. An answering service operates out of hours.
All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements were addressed in the Bulletin).
If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.
On "Partners Nights" it is a different arrangement as it will be assumed that your partner WILL BE attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.
Absence when away on travel is not an excuse. It is your reasonability to lodge your apology and it is recommended that this be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book” to save you remembering each week whilst you are away.
