Presidents Report No 31

From the President

Hello everyone
As I write this we are about to hold our 10th Annual Motor Show.

(apologies from the editor that I just did not have time to publish this bulletin prior to the Motor Show.....There was just not enough time available)

Thank you all for your participation on Sunday.  We look forward to a successful day for our Club and for Torquay.

Welcome Kelly Binyon

It was my privilege and joy to induct Kelly Binyon into our club last week.  Kelly joins us with the classification Retirement Living and will join the Youth Committee. She brings enthusiasm and energy and is looking forward to getting involved.  Welcome Kelly, Paul and your family including our re-bound Youth Exchange student Liam.

Speaking of Liam, congratulations on your year in Canada.  You obviously enjoyed yourself, learned lots and made many new friends.  Over and above that, you represented all of us especially well, doing yourself, your family and us proud.  Welcome home.  Good luck with your VCE studies this year.

What better way to wind down from the motor show than with some real laughs, which are guaranteed at the ROMAC fundraiser Dave Thornton and Friends to be held on Saturday 18 February, 2017 at 8.00pm at Buckleys in Geelong.
Only $32 per ticket. Book online at TryBooking or pay at the door.  It would be great to have a strong Torquay presence.

Let’s win an Aston Martin peddle car
Yes that’s right.   We can take home an Aston Martin from the Be Bold conference dinner.  All we have to do is win the Best Dressed Bond Cast award.  Imagine having this as a prize at next year’s motor show.
So I encourage members to register for the Be Bold conference and dinner – and then let’s plan an awesome presence at the dinner.  The challenge is on!

Appointment of new AG Youth
Following the sad passing of AG Sue Williams, DG Stephen wishes to advise that a replacement for the role of AG Youth has now been made.
AG Group 3 Pam Capstick (Horsham East) has accepted the role of AG Youth for the 2017-18 year (as appointed by DGE Ray) and Pam has accepted to fill this role early.
Pam shall take up the position as AG Youth from the February Board meeting (Feb 19).

Early notice of calls for nominations for DG 2019 - 2020
We are advised that we will shortly receive information regarding calls for nominating our DG for 2019-20.  Please consider suitable candidates from within our club and so we can submit when the official information comes out.

Motor Show 2017

A huge thankyou to all of our Members, Partners, Friends and Families for the awesome job at todays Motor Show. There will be a more comprehensive report to follow when all of the results and pictures come in.

In the meantime here are just a few pics taken from the VW Car Club's Facebook page to show just how good the event was and that the sun did actually shine.

Lloyd even managed a drive of an AC Cobra (no fun there) when he chauffeured an injured entrant home after the event.

The weather outlook was not good with a forecast of showers clearing and a top of 19 expected. We were concerned that cars and the public may not turn up.

However Torquay being what it is we saw no rain at least until the presentations when there were half a dozen drops.

We managed 330'ish cars, similar to last year and a strong crowd so we expect the result to be as good as last year if not better.

More to come soon.....once all of the photos are in.

The "Torquay Alco Free and Fun" Team team is doing febfast 2017.

So why not join in the febfast fun!

You can chose to give up Sugar &/or Alcohol

I've just joined febfast 2018, the 28 day health and wellbeing challenge that raises money for disadvantaged youth in Australia.
I'm doing it as part of the Torquay Rotary Zero Alcohol Maximum Fun Team team, and I'm looking forward to kick-starting 2016
with something a little different.

The reason for my email? Well, many hands make light work and I reckon febfast would be easier (and more fun!) if you joined me.

Amanda Hough and Maggie Isom have already joined the Team........so......

What do you say?

To get involved, click ‘Join This Team’ on our Team Page to register.

If you aren't up for the challenge, it would be great if you could sponsor us by making a donation instead.

Cheers!
Greg (Plugga) Plumridge

PS: want to know more about febfast? Check out their website.

Dinner Meeting Registration & Apologies

MEETING APOLOGIES - What do I do?

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!

Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence.  This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.

There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book" that is available at the book in table at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022.  An answering service operates out of hours.
  • All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements were addressed in the Bulletin).
  • If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.

  • On "Partners Nights" it is a different arrangement as it will be assumed that your partner WILL BE attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.

Absence when away on travel is not an excuse.  It is your reasonability to lodge your apology and it is recommended that this be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book” to save you remembering each week whilst you are away.
