Barwon Valley School seeks your help
Barwon Valley School seeks the help of Rotarians, to build a sensory playground in the Kindergarten area, which has been sponsored by Geelong Central RC. Work will be supervised by the school’s maintenance man Mark.
Barwon Valley School is the region’s ‘special needs’ school for disabled children aged 5 to 18, drawing its students from all over the region (including Torquay). 210 children are currently enrolled, many spending up to 4 hours travel time to and from school.
The school is 10 years old and was built with fenced spaces to play, but the spaces provide little or no sensory input to the children.
The school is replacing “swimming pool style” fencing with fences with AstroTurf and perspex panels than split the light into the rainbow, installing wind chimes, seats for the children to sit on, along with “cubby’s” for them to retreat into when they need to feel safe and secure.
If you can spare four hours (10 am – 3pm) on any of Tuesday 4, Wednesday 5 ,Thursday 6, Tuesday 11, Wednesday 12 or Thursday 13 April, please contact Don Shields at don@gibvic.com.au Your assistance would be much appreciated.
