Presidents Report No 40

From the President

Bulletin No. 40 – From the President
Hello everyone
Congratulations to everyone involved in organising and running Ride the Bellarine.  Despite trying conditions, the event was a huge success.  Congratulations also to Brian and Karen for completing the ride on our behalf.  You represented the RC of Torquay so well and all of us who cannot even imagine riding 60kms take our collective hats off to you.  I look forward to hearing the final total of funds raised to help eradicate Polio.
DG partner’s project – Nursing Scholarships
You will recall we presented Gaye with a cheque for the Indigenous Nursing Health Scholarships when Stephen visited us in July, 2016.  Gaye and Stephen would like to thank everyone for their support.  Here is the note I received this week:
Gaye and I would like to once again say thank you to you and your club for supporting the DG Partners project of raising awareness and funds for Indigenous Nursing Health Scholarships provided through Australian Rotary Health.
As an update to you and your club, the combined funds raised by the district to date, including those funds raised at the Be BOND dinner at Conference 2017, is $21498.00.
This is an overwhelming result and shall provide funding for up to eight full scholarships for students in our district.
Many thanks for your wonderful support.
Kind regards
Stephen
You may or may not be a Facebook fan, but it is worth taking a look at the wonderful messages and comments for Mary on the post about the recognition for her amazing service to Rotary and the presentation from DG Stephen.  Well done Mary. You are such an inspiration to all of us.

All members are invited to the District Assembly.  In particular new members and incoming Board members really should see this as a great day full of information about Rotary and  the upcoming year. Register online or let PR Gaynor Schols know your intentions and she will be able to help you register. I have registered and will be looking to car pool for the trip to Ararat.

Chairmans Report -Book Fair Review

Thank you to our Book Fair partners
The Book Fair's success is dependent on the generosity of our community volunteers and sponsors. Last Monday we were happy to host members from Diversitat, Torquay Central Probus, Torquay Scouts and Torquay Book Shop.
Janelle from Diversitat liaised with some of her young people, Eh La, Kukun, Angela and Andrew, all of whom provided excellent service at the Book Fair.
Gail Birchall tirelessly collected books and encouraged her members to assist throughout the weekend.
Desley once again provided the great location of the Scout Hall.
Rosemary from Torquay Books provided an outstanding collection of new books for us to benefit from.
Bryan Hayden and Noel from Lorne Second Hand Books provide ongoing sponsorship for which we are very grateful. And of course, Geelong West RC provided many of the books.
Another fabulous example of Rotary in Action.
Thank you again to all who assisted with this event

Dinner Meeting Registration & Apologies

MEETING APOLOGIES - What do I do?

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!

Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence.  This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.

There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book" that is available at the book in table at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022.  An answering service operates out of hours.
  • All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements were addressed in the Bulletin).
  • If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.

  • On "Partners Nights" it is a different arrangement as it will be assumed that your partner WILL BE attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.

Absence when away on travel is not an excuse.  It is your reasonability to lodge your apology and it is recommended that this be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book” to save you remembering each week whilst you are away.
