Report No 11

Opening of The Storage Shed
The joint Rotary/Lions shed, which is located behind the tennis courts at the Football Oval, is ready for use and some of us joined the Lions members for the official opening on Monday at 5.30pm and following today's Cowrie Market our BBQ trailer moved into its new home. It still requires shelving and water at a later stage. Thanks to Mal Slater, John McDonald and all others involved in this project.

Committee Meetings on 11th September
Fruitful discussions took place on the progress of our planned projects and two new projects were proposed.
1.  Linda Neale suggested we all provide toiletries between now and Christmas to provide boxes to the East Loddon Community Network Group Inc. Please bring items to meetings for collection each week.
2.  Lesley Shedden has proposed collection of used soaps which will to be recycled into new soap bars and sent to needy communities. Hotels are main target.
Let's all get behind these initiatives!

Feedback from Board Meeting held on 11 Sept 2017
  • Trevor Pickles is now our official President Elect
  • An EFTPOS machine has been approved for the club
  • If any member is interested in organising a new Probus Club, please contact Gerard McNamara
  • Unplanned requests for donations will not be considered until March next year, when we have raised some funds.
  • We will provide a BBQ (sausages and rissoles) for the Peace of Mind cancer retreat on Friday 13 October at 5pm. Volunteers required.

    Rules and Bylaws
Please read the draft of the new rules and Bylaws before the Special General Meeting to be held on 18/9/17.

Brownlow Night - 25th Sept

Brownlow Football Night

Monday 25 September 2017

This is a football themed night so dress in your club colours or dress to impress.  At this stage we have arranged a guest speaker from the Torquay Football Club (2017 Premiers) so you should be entertained.

This is a PARTNERS INVITED NIGHT so please book your partners in by 12 noon on Friday 22 September 2017 ph: 5222 2022.  Please feel free to invite your friends (you just need to remember to book them in). We need the numbers early so Lorraine can arrange the catering however late bookings will be accepted.

The final program has not been resolved but it will include an individual trivia challenge to find our very own "football genius" for 2017 (no phones allowed), maybe a green carpet walk  for the best dressed and a Brownlow tipping contest (download entry form).

Also if everyone can bring one piece of football memorabilia (or more if you wish) it will add to the event.

We need some football decorations for about 5 tables so if we have any volunteers please let me know or if anyone has any ideas for the evening please give me a call.

It won't be a late night (finished by 8:00pm) because we will want to get home to watch the Brownlow.

East Loddon Food Share Program - YOUR HELP IS NEEDED

s
Two weeks ago  we were given an insight to the tough conditions many farmers and rural communities face, which can often be for many consecutive years. Leanne Welsh is one of these who lives at East Loddon just north of Bendigo and is the current President of the East Loddon Food Share Program. You will recall that Leanne informed us of the work performed by The East Loddon Food Share Program (ELFS Program)
The Program provides emergency food, personal toiletries and basic household items to families and individuals who are suffering as a result of extreme circumstances.
Extreme circumstances can strike anyone at any time. Natural disasters, such as drought or bushfire, have an enormous impact on
the day-to-day lives of people living within the effected zone. Similarly, illness or an unexpected loss of income, can place people
in a sudden and very difficult situation.

Last week your Board discussed just how our club could offer support to the ELFS Program taking into consideration that
  1. We are only just entering the BBQ fundraising seasons so our fundraising account is rather lean.
  2.  Until we conclude our Motor Show and Book Fair which are our two greatest fundraisers
.....we are not really in apposition to offer financial support to the ELFSP . However one way we can help is to collect personal toiletries for both men and women which we can pack into "Shoe Boxes" for the families to be distributed by the ELFSP.

Richard and Sharon Mierzejewski have offered their business LET Surf Coast at  Shop 5/15 Bell St Torquay to be the collection point for donated products. Please spread the word amongst your friends and family. We will also be seeking some publicity of the project in the Surf Coast Times.

2017-18 BBQ Season - Update

You will have now received a completed 2017-18 BBQ Roster Spreadsheet via email. The Roster is also saved in Clubrunner Club Documents or Click this link BBQ ROSTER

A massive day for the crew on duty at the Cowrie Market. Great weather and being the first Market for the Season resulted in a huge crowd and a big BBQ day. It was a real BBQ baptism for two of our newest members Terry Charlton and Trevor Hall thanks to all who assisted in sales of $1,300.

I don't know how he found time but prankster Mike Reed was seen playing on his iPad or was that Eye Pad? during the afternoon.

The next BBQ will be at  Bunnings which is a fundraiser for our Club followed by the next Cowrie Market on 15th October.

Thanks to the following members who have volunteered as follows.

Saturday October 28th

Morning Session 8.30am to 12

  • Kelly Binyon

Rotary South Pacific Regional Information Bulletin
September 2017    Regional Information Bulletin

Rotary is at a crossroads.
That was the resounding message that General Secretary John Hewko had for Rotarians when he graced the Rotary Hills Zone multi-club meeting hosted by RC Beecroft.

Throughout both GETS and Institutes in Darwin and in Auckland, John challenged Rotarians in this region to try new ways of addressing the decline in membership. He urged everyone to see this part of the world as a laboratory, testing different ways to meet, asking the tough questions why Rotary is not attracting more members.

Membership is central in Rotary’s strategic plan of strengthening and supporting clubs, focusing on humanitarian service and enhancing Rotary’s public image and awareness. These three are closely interwoven and the focus on humanitarian service particularly ensures member engagement.

Dinner Meeting Registration & Apologies

MEETING APOLOGIES - What do I do?

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!

Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable
to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence.
This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.

There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book"
that is available at the check in table at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022.
An answering service operates out of hours.
  • All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements
  • were addressed in the Bulletin).
  • If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the
  • usual dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.

  • On "Partners Nights" it is a different arrangement as it will be assumed that your partner WILL BE attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.

Absence when away on travel is not an excuse.  It is your reasonability to lodge your apology and it is recommended that this
be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book” to save you remembering each week whilst you are away.
