Thank you everybody for your interest and assistance at last week’s meeting to answer the questions and complete the Sexual Abuse Liability Insurance questionnaire and to also appreciate the critical importance of updated risk management procedures and assessments for our events. Each Director will ensure the risk assessments are completed in their avenue of service and aim to keep the process as simple as possible.
Traffic Management Certificates
We have become aware that existing certificates have expired and now have the opportunity for members to undertake training and receive new accreditation. If this is of interest to you, I am sure Secretary John will be very pleased to hear from you. When we have members with these certificates we not only simplify traffic management for any of our own events but can also earn income for the club by offering our services to other’s events.
Drug awareness interview – Sunday 28 August Channel 7
DG Stephen Lamont through District Secretary PP Rod Greer, is alerting Rotarians that Kim Ledger will be interviewed by Margaret Milligan on Channel 7’s Sunday Night program this Sunday. Kim will be a keynote speaker on Drug Awareness at this year’s Be Bold 2017 Rotary Conference.
Kim Ledger is a respected entrepreneur and father of the late Oscar-winning actor, Heath Ledger who died from an accidental overdose of prescription medications in January 2008. He became patron of ScriptWise in December 2014, following an approach by a Victorian couple who had tragically lost two of their children, one of them long suffering to opioid dependency. Mr. Ledger is passionate about better education and awareness around the issue of prescription medication misuse and overdoes in Australia.
Men’s Retreat for Brain Cancer – Anglesea
Thank you to members for supporting our involvement in this retreat by providing the BBQ on Saturday 8 October. The retreat will be run by the ‘Peace of Mind Foundation’ which is a not for profit organisation providing financial, emotional and in home support to children and adults fighting brain cancer who live in the Barwon region.
This opportunity was brought to us by Gail and Greg Birchell and also let’s us get that little bit closer to the Anglesea community, as it will be run at the Anglesea Beachfront Family Caravan Park.
Fireside chats
Please all remember that we are NOT at the Lions Village we will be instead meeting in groups at Rotarians homes.
I am looking forward to hosting one of our fireside chats and hope you all enjoy this break from the formal meeting format and do get into some really good ‘chats’. It will be fascinating to hear the stories and feedback next week. Thank you Maggie for another great piece of organisation.
Torquay Rotary Fitness Stations
We continue to need support for raising funds for the fitness stations and ask you go onto Communities to share our project, provide support if you can and generally let anyone and everyone know about this great project. Some fantastic pledges have been received, but we need to get over the tipping point to receive any of the money.
