Bulletin No  15

From the President

Hello from sunny Miami – again - where the days have been in the mid 20 degrees, with and without sunshine.

Request from District Governor Stephen for support for Haiti following Hurricane Matthew
Included in the District eNews this week is a plea from Shelter Box Australia for support in their work in Haiti.
District Governor Stephen has posted the following request in support.
" Please find some information on the current supply of Shelterbox units to those in need in Haiti. Could I ask clubs that have considered providing financial assistance to Shelterbox this year, to consider providing funds now if available. This shall assist Shelterbox to replace units being sourced and sent to Haiti and provide ongoing Humanitarian support to those in need due to natural disasters now and for future use. "

Given the seriousness and urgency of the Haiti disaster our Board this week passed a motion (via electronic hook up) that  "we donate $1000 to Shelterbox on this occasion, which will cover the cost of a complete Shelterbox and so will provide direct assistance to the people of Haiti." This payment has already been made, so we can all take comfort in the knowledge that one family in Haiti will soon be able to begin rebuilding their lives thanks to our Club.

District AGM – thank you Chris Sims
We have received the Notice of the District AGM (Nov 6th) and an invitation to submit special agenda items.  The closing date for these items is October 16th (21 days prior to the AGM).  Clubs have also received a "Schedule 1", whereby we can nominate a club member or their AG to act on their behalf at the AGM.  These forms need to be completed and returned to District Secretary Rod Greer by Sunday October 30th. A big thank you to Chris Sims who is attending the AGM and will be our official representative.

Vale Max Walker – ROMAC patron and supporter
It is with great sadness we learnt a great Aussie cricketer and a huge supporter of ROMAC passed away on the 28th September 2016. Max Walker was a key contributor to the establishment of Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC)
In the early days he provided invaluable assistance to Barrie Cooper in bringing an awareness of ROMAC and championing the concept of bringing life giving and dignity restoring medical aid to children of our neighbouring developing nations within the Oceania region. He was proud to be the national Patron of ROMAC and made himself available on countless occasions to energise support for ROMAC.
Without that support, ROMAC may not have become a Multi District Project of Rotary in Australia and
New Zealand and 400 plus children would not have been the beneficiaries of  that medical aid.
Max was also a contributor to the community in so many other ways and his Family is now looking to honour his wish to establish a bequest fund for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.
In recognition of the work Max carried out to promote ROMAC, we ask you to encourage others to make a donation to the bequest fund. We ask that you circulate the request as far and wide as possible but in particular to Rotarians as a recognition of what Max did for Rotary and specifically ROMAC.
Donors can respond through the following  link:- everydayhero: Donations to ACRF In Memoryhttps://acrf-in-memory.everydayhero.com/au/max-walker

Last week was " Make-up Week" for our Club and a group of 12 of us represented our Club at the Grovedale Waurn Ponds Dinner Auction which as usual was a lot of fun, as you can see in the pics "winners were grinners" and others left wondering just how they ended up with some items.

It will be interesting to hear feedback from other members on their "Make-up" experiences, for instance I know that Trevor Brown did a make-up with the Rotary eClub One of Minnesota so we can look forward to feedback on that experience.

See you all Monday Night

There is still opportunity to help contribute to the project. We hope you will support us in this fantastic project by pledging financial support and sharing this post with your friends. CLICK HERE TO HELP

Dinner Meeting Registration & Apologies

MEETING APOLOGIES - What do I do?

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!

Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence.  This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.

There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book" that is available at the book in table at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022.  An answering service operates out of hours.
  • All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements were addressed in the Bulletin).
  • If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.

  • On "Partners Nights" it is a different arrangement as it will be assumed that your partner WILL BE attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.

Absence when away on travel is not an excuse.  It is your reasonability to lodge your apology and it is recommended that this be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book” to save you remembering each week whilst you are away.
