Presidents Report

Bulletin No  11

From the President

Thank you everyone who attended last week and took part in the BBQ Trailer Training.  I think it was valuable for most of us, some more than others, and a great way to begin the BBQ season.  Thanks especially to Mal and Geoff for bringing the trailer in and running the training. as ell as for all the maintenance you have done on the trailer since last year.  The next step is to finalise the BBQ roster, which is currently being developed. I am sure we will hear more from Graham soon on this.

It was with much sadness that we received the news of the passing of Linda Neale's Mother, Mabel Cashin, suddenly last Tuesday. The funeral will be held on Tuesday 20th September @ 11am @ St Luke's Anglican Church in Torquay. Our thoughts are with Linda at this time.

Be Bond conference 2017
You may recall when DG Stephen visited our Club in July, mention was made of us offering bed and breakfast type accommodation to Rotarians visiting for the District Conference on 31 March and 1 April, 2017.  I would like to create a register of such accommodation and hope we can make some available.  Would you please give this some thought so when you receive an email asking for details, you will be ready to respond.

Request from Rotarian in Balwayn for accommodation for her foster son
I received an email this week from Gayle Vermont a Rotary member of Balwyn asking whether we can help her foster son – Dane Smith – who has started work at the Ripcurl outlet store here in Torquay while completing his Business Degree at Swinburne University and is struggling to find accommodation by way of a room to rent. If you can help or know someone who may be able to help, can you let me know please and I will pass on Gayle’s details.

Board meeting this Monday 19 September
As always, if you have issues you’d like raised or would like to attend the Board meeting, please do so. Our meetings are open to all members.

Brownlow Night

Brownlow Football Night

Monday 26 September 2016

This is a football themed night so dress in your club colours or dress to impress.  At this stage we haven't arranged a guest speaker
but hopefully you will be entertained for a while at least any way.

This is a partners night so if your partner is not coming please apologise for them by 9am on Monday 26 September 2016 ph 5222 2022.
Please feel free to invite your friends (you just need to remember to book them in).   If you don't apologise for your partner they will
assume to be attending with you.

The final program has not been resolved but it may include an individual trivia challenge to find our very own "football genius" for 2016
(no phones allowed), maybe a green carpet walk for the best dressed and perhaps even a Brownlow tipping contest.

Also if everyone can bring one piece of football memorabilia (or more if you wish) it will add to the event.

We need some football decorations for about 5 tables so if we have any volunteers please let me know or if anyone has any ideas for the
evening please give me a call.

It won't be a late night because we will want to get home to watch the Brownlow.

David Mitchell 0407 616 391 / 5222 2022.

Community Fitness Stations ....coming soon
A major project for Torquay Rotary this year is to install several fitness stations on the Torquay foreshore for the benefit of residents and visitors. There will be 4 stations each consisting of 2 elements of equipment. which will be situated on the walking track along the coast between Elephant Walk (near Zeally Bay Rd) and the carpark above the Surf Beach The equipment is currently being manufactured and will be erected prior to summer. Thanks to some generous corporate funding we are on the home stretch but still need more assistance to complete the project. You are invited to help us raise the final $$$$ to get the equipment in the ground
We hope you will support us in this fantastic project by pledging financial support and sharing this post with your friends. CLICK HERE TO HELP

Dinner Meeting Registration & Apologies

MEETING APOLOGIES - What do I do?

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!

Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence.  This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.

There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book" that is available at the book in table at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022.  An answering service operates out of hours.
  • All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements were addressed in the Bulletin).
  • If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.

  • On "Partners Nights" it is a different arrangement as it will be assumed that your partner WILL BE attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.

Absence when away on travel is not an excuse.  It is your reasonability to lodge your apology and it is recommended that this be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book” to save you remembering each week whilst you are away.
